TomTom to Provide Real Time Traffic Data to Assist Maastricht in Minimising Traffic Disruption During Major Construction work on the A2
Amsterdam, 20 July 2011 – TomTom today announces it will provide real time traffic data to Avenue2 (a consortium of Ballast Nedam and Strukton, two leading construction companies in the Netherlands) which is building a new tunnel under the busy A2 motorway through Maastricht. This data will enable the consortium to monitor in real time the traffic congestion caused by the construction work throughout the entire project, which is due to be completed in 2017. By being aware of actual traffic conditions, the consortium is able to ensure that any inconvenience due to the road works will be kept within the agreed limits.
Maarten van Gool, Managing Director at TomTom Licensing: "TomTom offers traffic solutions that enable the most efficient use of the road network and help to reduce traffic congestion. This is a good example of the benefits our real time data is delivering, not only to our clients but also to the wider road-using community."
"By implementing the traffic plan "De Groene loper" (the Green Carpet), the future Maastricht highway will go underground and hence resolve significant traffic and environmental problems. Thanks to the real time traffic data based on TomTom's floating car data, we will also be able to efficiently control traffic flows on the affected roads during the construction" said Conny Koreman, Communication Manager at Avenue2.
The road works started earlier this year and are expected to be finished in 2017. More information on the project: www.a2maastricht.nl
