Sep 29, 2016

Paris Motor Show, Paris, France, 29 September, 2016 – TomTom (TOM2) today announces the coverage expansion of its High Definition (HD) Map and RoadDNA products to France, covering nearly 33,000 kilometres of motorways across the country. Additionally, TomTom is extending its HD Map and RoadDNA coverage in the United States to include 13 additional states.  By already delivering over 200,000 kilometres of HD Map coverage globally, TomTom is enabling the automotive industry to bring autonomous driving closer to reality.

“The initial launch of our HD Map, including RoadDNA, was almost exactly one year ago today with complete coverage for the Autobahn network in Germany,” said Willem Strijbosch, Head of Autonomous Driving at TomTom. “Over the past year, TomTom has grown its HD Map coverage by 650%, proving both the scalability of our production process, as well as our commitment to helping the automotive industry accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles.”

This product launch brings TomTom’s HD Map and RoadDNA coverage to 206,203 kilometres globally, including:

  • Motorways in France (32,956 km);
  • Autobahn network in Germany (27,631 km);
  • Interstates in 30 U.S. states (104,690 km);
  • Interstates and highways in three U.S. states (40,926 km).

TomTom HD Map and RoadDNA are two revolutionary, highly accurate digital map products helping automated vehicles precisely locate themselves on the road and plan manoeuvres, even when traveling at high speeds. Launched commercially in 2015, these new technologies are being rolled out in strategic geographies and are the subject of key partnerships with other automotive suppliers.
