Amsterdam, 23 June 2016 – TomTom (TOM2) has today announced that its IP team has been awarded a Special Distinction in the Best IP Department, Overall Strategy 2016 category, at the International General Counsel Awards held in New York. This award recognises a company's approach to IP and the IP department's work, focus on development and overall reputation.

The award was presented at the International Legal Alliance Summit & Awards (ILASA), an annual event that rewards the Best Legal, Intellectual Property and Tax Departments from around the globe. The winners are selected by 12 specialised jury panels of General Counsel and previous laureates. The judging process is extremely rigorous, confidential and based on the judges' experience as well as information provided by nominees.

This award is the latest in a series of accolades for the IP team as it was last year also named both the European and Global IP Team of the year 2015 by the Association of Corporate Counsels.
